Maria Elizabeth "Betty" Patterson, age 82 of Pequaming, MI passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Bayside Village in L'Anse, MI.
She was born on April 13, 1930 in Negaunee, MI, daughter to Elmer and Hilia (Leppanen) Perala. Betty graduated from Negaunee High School and was a member of an exclusive club of lifelong friends called the "Knittin Kittens" which still survives.
She married George Lappi of Champion, MI; he was killed in the line of duty in 1956. In 1959 Betty married Carlton Patterson of Gaylord, MI and eventually they moved to L'Anse, MI in 1968.
Betty was a member of the United Lutheran Church, and The Order of the Eastern Star L'Anse Maplewood Chapter #511 and served many offices including Worthy Matron, and was recognized for 32 years of honorable service. She had many loyal friends, some survive and some preceded her in death (you know who are). She was always volunteering and enjoyed antiquing, gardening, taking walks, paddle boating, knitting, and raising her 6 children.
Surviving are her daughter Michelle; sons, Daniel G. (Nancy) Lappi of Milwaukee, WI , Drew R. (Tamara) Patterson of Bay City, MI, Darren C. Patterson of Pequaming, Dean C. (Kathy) Patterson of Little Suamico, WI; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband's George Lappi and Carlton Patterson; and a son David Lappi.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church in L'Anse, with Rev. Greg Mileski officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in the spring in the Pequaming Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
