Marianne Laila Keranen, age 84 of Alston, MI passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Cyprus Manor in Hancock, MI.
She was born December 25, 1928 in Baraga, MI daughter to Herman and Jenni (Hirvosniemi) Alatalo. Marianne graduated from Baraga High School. She married Lauri Keranen in 1945. Marianne later attended Suomi College. She worked as a cook at numerous local restaurants and at Isle Royale National Park.
Marianne had a ceramic shop at her home and gave classes. She liked to play scrabble, go rock hunting, painting, writing, and fishing.
Survived are her daughter Kris (David) Kasten of Nisula; grandsons, Jim (Pam) Kantola of Burleson, TX, Jeff Hautamaki of Corpus Christie, TX; two great grandsons, Bryan Kantola and Jason (Katlyn) Kantola of Corpus Christie, TX; one great great granddaughter Apple Rose; sister-in-law and best friend Elizabeth Alatalo of Baraga; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; sons, Delbert and Kevin Keranen; brothers, Herman, Arvi, and John Alatalo; sisters, Selma Dompier, Frances Alatalo, Rose Mathes; and grandson Jason.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home with Rev. John Autio officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. A luncheon and fellowship will follow the service in the Sharing Room at Jacobson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery.
