Marion G. Thompson-Tollefsen, 96, a former Sidnaw, Trout Creek and L'Anse resident died Thursday evening, March 16, 2006 at Bayside Village Nursing Home in L'Anse.
She was born March 23, 1909, in Sidnaw, MI, a daughter of the late Reuben & Annie (Rickard) Bennett. Marion attended Sidnaw & Kenton schools and was a 1932 graduate of Kenton High School.
She married Helmar Perry (Pat) Thompson July 1, 1933 in Crystal Falls, MI and he preceded her in death on February 14, 1975.
Marion worked as a restaurant cook and a riveter on military aircraft (Rosie the Riveter) during World War II at an aircraft plant in Arizona. She also worked for the Forest Service planting trees and had owned and operated the Thompson Boarding House & Adult Care Home until 1973. She enjoyed being near and doing various things with her family. She was a member of the Sidnaw United Methodist Church.
Marion married Irving A. (Tolly) Tollefsen in 1983 and he preceded her in death in 1993.
She is survived by sons, Thomas (Beverly) Thompson and Robert (Joan) Thompson, both of Sidnaw; daughter, Dorothy (Donald) Beck of Sidnaw; son-in-law, Robert Golden of Sidnaw; step-daughter, Dolores (Jack) Johnson of Richardson, TX; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine (Frederick) Beauprey of Sidnaw; sister-in-law, Alice Thompson of Trout Creek; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Pat Thompson in 1975; son, Howard Thompson in 1984; daughter, Carol Golden in 2004; husband, Tolly Tollefsen in 1993; 3 brothers, Robert Bennett, William and Carol Bennett; and 5 sisters, Pearl Bennett, Ruby Lintz, Nora Fesnick, June Collins-Toivonen and Eloise Hallada.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Sidnaw United Methodist Church. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. in the church with Rev. John Henry officiating. Interment will be in the Sidnaw Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider the Sidnaw United Methodist Church or Bayside Village Activities Fund.
