Martha E. Karvonen
August 24, 1916 — October 9, 2006
Martha Elizabeth Karvonen, 90, of L'Anse, died Monday morning, October 9, 2006 at Bayside Village.
She was born August 24, 1916, in Point Mills, Michigan, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Pieniniemi) Partanen. Martha was a 1935 graduate of L'Anse High School.
Martha married Edwin B. Karvonen in June of 1935 and he preceded her in death in 1984.
She was a member of L'Anse Baptist Church and in her spare time enjoyed sewing, reading and letter writing.
Martha is survived by 3 sons, Wayne (Pat) Karvonen of Arnheim, Robert (Deborah) Karvonen of L'Anse and Michael (Ellen) Karvonen of Motley, MI; a daughter, Carol (Ronald) Richards of Baraga; 2 brothers, Paul (Alice) Partanen of Grand Rapids, MI and Pete (June) Partanen of Kalamazoo, MI; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, David Karvonen; 4 brothers, Charles, John, Edwin and George; and a grandson, Dennis Richards.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Bishop officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
