Mary T. Aho, 88, of Baraga, died Tuesday morning, August 9, 2005 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
She was born August 19, 1916, in Keweenaw Bay, a daughter of the late Joseph and Virginia (Miron) LaTendresse. Mary was a 1934 graduate of Baraga High School. She married William O. Aho in 1937 in Assinins and he preceded her in death in 1998.
Mary was raised in Keweenaw Bay and moved to the Detroit area with her husband and resided there until his retirement when they moved to the Traverse City area. She had been residing in Baraga for the past few years.
She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. Mary enjoyed working with her hands. Gardening and seamstress work was among her favorite pastimes, along with traveling.
She is survived by two children, Roger Aho of Plymouth, MI and Julianne (Jim) Stirling of Fairfield, Connecticut; grandchildren, Brad (Cheri) Field of Potomac Falls, Virginia, Elissa (Jeff) Thompson of Riviera Beach, Florida and Natalie Aho of Livonia, MI; step-grandchildren, Anita (Scott) Langer of Milford, MI and Judy (Sean) Tull of Shelby Township, MI; 3 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eva (Lester) Miron of Baraga. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Aho in 1991; sisters, Blanche Gant and Elizabeth Shelton; and brothers, George, Joseph, Philip and Henry LaTendresse.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2005 from 9 to 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the church with Rev. George Maki officiating. Interment will be in the Assinins Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Baraga Area Historical and Genealogy Center.
