Mary "Nigga" Frances Le Claire, age 88 of Iron Mountain, MI formerly of Baraga, MI, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Maryhill Manor in Niagara, WI where she has been a resident for a couple of weeks.
Mary was born August 3, 1925 in Baraga, MI daughter to Joseph and Alma (Anderson) Miron. She graduated from Baraga High School in 1943. She married Malvie Le Claire on November 27, 1943 in Detroit. In 1949 they moved to Oregon with his logging business and after a few years moved back to Baraga.
Mary was a member of St. Ann's Church, the Altar Society, Third Order of St. Francis, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was known for decorating at the church and for hunter's supper, beautifying Baraga with flower beds throughout town, and she enjoyed gardening, canning, and baking.
Surviving are her son Dr. John (Lisa) Le Claire of Muskegon, MI; daughter Fran (Len) Pickett of Kingsford; brother Joseph Miron of Fort Meyers, FL; six grandchildren, Brian (Courtney) Le Claire, Andrew Le Claire, Sara (William) Metz, Shaun Pickett, Shannon (Jeff) Powell, Michael (Stacey) Pickett; 11 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Malvie Le Claire; brothers, Donald, Lester, Raymond, Earl, Louis, and Roger Miron; sisters Norma Ross and Rita Le Claire.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 20th from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be recited at 7:30 p.m.. The funeral mass will be on Tuesday, January 21st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Church in Baraga with Fr. Nick Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Baraga Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
