Mary Margaret Harrington, age 79 of L'Anse passed away on Monday, July 7, 2003 at the home of her nephew, Neil O'Connor in River Forest, IL, where she resided in recent months.
Mary Margaret was born in Ahmeek, MI on August 5, 1923. She was the cherished daughter of Leo and Margaret (Moriarity) Harrington. She graduated from L'Anse High School and served in the WAVES US Navy during World War II. After discharge she returned to L'Anse and was employed at the State of MI unemployment office for a few years, then for 32 years at the Commercial National Bank in L'Anse, retiring in 1985 as Head Teller. During that time she was a devoted member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, the American Legion and Waves National Unit 137.
She is survived by her brother William Harrington of Detroit, MI, her nephews Patrick Harrington of Grand Blanc, MI, Neil O'Connor of River Forest, IL, cousins, Frances Whorley of Cincinnati, OH, Dr. Daniel Harrington of Roanoke, Virginia, Betty Jane Grant of Delaware, and Patricia White of Grand Rapids, MI, and several special friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
She is preceded in death by her mother Margaret in 1936, her father Leo in 1979, and her beloved aunt Mary A Harrington in 1997. Both her father Leo and her aunt Mary were long time residents of L'Anse.
The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Fr. Greg Heikkala will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
