Mary Catherine Koskinen, 92, of Baraga, died Wednesday afternoon, January 10, 2007, with her family by her side, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital's Skilled Nursing Unit.

She was born January 6, 1915, in Hancock, MI, a daughter of the late Richard A. & Gertrude (Ongie) Cote and had been a lifelong area resident. Mary was a 1932 Baraga High School graduate.

On January 9, 1943 she married Onnie K. Koskinen in Baraga and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1992.

She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga, St. Ann's Altar Society, 3rd Order of St. Francis, the Lady Forester's, American Legion Post #444 Auxiliary and the L'Anse Golf Club.

Catherine's favorite room in her home was her kitchen. She loved to cook for her family and neighbors. Those who visited her always left her home well fed.

Catherine is survived by a daughter, Mary Kay (Tom) Clisch; sons, Jim (Lucille) Koskinen, Michael (Blanche) Koskinen of Baraga, Pat (Mary) Koskinen of Iron Mountain and Robert (Sally) Koskinen of Baraga; grandchildren, Sue Skytta, Shellie Usitalo, TJ Clisch, Stacey Clisch, Jimmer Koskinen, Julie Ruotsala, John, Mike, Craig, Kim, Jason, Carey, Mark, Scott & Gary Koskinen; 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Cote and a sister, Helen Cote.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 12, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse. A parish prayer service will be at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga with Rev. Augustin George and Rev. Norman Clisch Concelebrating. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the mass in the church. Interment will be held in the Baraga Cemetery in the spring.
