Mercedes Gatz (Schmitt) Magaraggia

Mercedes Gatz Magaraggia, age 91 of L'Anse, MI passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 2nd, 2022 in Eagle River, WI.

She was born September 28, 1931 in Birnamwood, WI daughter of Edgar and Ernestine (Gatz) Schmitt. Mercedes graduated from Birnamwood High School in 1950. She marred Lawrence Magaraggia on December 10, 1955, then they resided in Milwaukee, WI for a couple of years prior to moving to Caspian, MI. In 1963 they moved to L'Anse.

Mercedes was a member of United Lutheran Church in L'anse, and Red Hats.

Surviving are her children, Lori (Andrew) Williams of Alva, FL, Mark Magaraggia of L’Anse, Lisa (Bob) Tollefson of DePere, WI, Peter (Tammy) Magaraggia of L’Anse, Susan (Dave) Fietzer of Winneconne, WI; grandchildren, Kathleen, Lucas, Adam, Thomas, Jena, Jay, Johnathon, Emily, Joe, Dean, Gina, Mercedes, Ruby; great grandchildren Gracie, Bailey, Willa, Odell, Porter, Colt, Andromeda; brother Arthur (Elaine) Schmitt; sisters, Pauline Grimm, Lola Schultz, Bonita (Peter) Leitza; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents Edgar and Ernestine Schmitt; daughter Theresa McInenly, and husband Lawrence Magaraggia.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 7th from 11-1:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Julie Belew officiating. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion in L'Anse.
