Michael Thomas Bennett, age 61 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014 at his home.

Mike was born October 7, 1953 in L’Anse, son to Alton and Maxine (Biegajski) Bennett. He graduated from L’Anse High School in 1972. On April 11, 2000 he married the love of his life Shelley Haanpaa.

Mike worked at the Baraga max prison for 17 plus years. He contracted out in painting and carpentry. His hobbies included, fishing, trapping, and hunting, spending time at camp, and snowshoeing. He was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Tigers. He enjoyed time with his dog Sasha.

Surviving are his son, Christopher Peterson and children Taylor and Dylan; daughters, Jenna (Mel) LaFernier; Kristen (Drew) Patovisti and children Anthony, Taylor, Hayden, and Kale; Heather (Jesse) Manning and daughter Brie; siblings, Patricia (Mark) Scales and children Jason (Jill), Matthew (Tara), Mark (Tiffany), Jonathan (Amber); John (Kathy) Bennett and children, Janine, Gregg, Laura, and Lisa; Timothy (Janal) Bennett and children, Megan (Korey) Capello, and Lisa Bennett; Mary (Mark) Eanes and children Samantha and Noah; mother-in-law Nancy Haanpaa; in-law’s David (Nancy Haanpaa, Roddy (Cheryl) Haanpaa, Tracy (Greg) LaPlante, William (Danielle) Haanpaa.

Preceding him in death are his parents; loving wife Shelley; and a nephew Scott Scales.

His funeral was held on Monday, Nov. 17th at 6:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. Visitation wasfrom 4-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the L’Anse Cemetery.
