Michael Eric Erickson, 47, of Ontonagon, formerly of Skanee, died unexpectedly at his home, Sunday, January 1, 2006.

He was born February 18, 1958, in Racine, Wisconsin, a son of John L. and Alice (Mortl) Erickson. Mike was raised in Skanee, moved to L'Anse and for the past 10 plus years had resided in Ontonagon.

He was employed in various occupations through the years. He worked at the Erickson Sawmill in Skanee, the Baraga County Sheriff's Department, L'Anse Village Police, Village of L'Anse and for the past several years had been employed with Ontonagon County REA as an operations manager.

Mike was a former member of the Norwich Country Club in Ontonagon. His leisure activities included fishing, ice fishing, four wheeling, bird hunting and the outdoors in general. He was a Detroit Lions fan, enjoyed hockey as both coach and spectator and also loved to play cards.

He is survived by his mother, Alice Roland of L'Anse; children, Michael (Sarah) Karvakko of Bemidji, MN, Jessica (Doug) Kehus of Tapiola, MI and Stacey Erickson-Karvakko of Chassell, MI; special friend and longtime partner, Leana Yaklyvich and her children, Nicholas & Jesse Yaklyvich of Ontonagon; Siblings, Dianne (David) Haapala of Ewen and John Erickson of Apopka, FL; grandchildren, Sierra & Sawyer Kehus of Tapiola, Mason & August Karvakko of Bemidji, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His father, John L. Erickson and stepfather, James "Bud" Roland, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2006 from 11 to 1 p.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Judy Mattson officiating. Interment will be in the Skanee Cemetery in the spring.
