Milma E. Jolgren
July 8, 1918 — October 24, 2001
Milma E. Jolgren, age 83, formerly of Pelkie, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at Maple Manor Nursing Center in Ontonagon.
She was born July 8, 1918 in Pelkie, daughter to the late Charles and Gustava Sanna (Oikarinen) Harkonen. Milma graduated from Baraga High School in 1936. She married William Jolgren on July 26, 1948 in Pelkie. They lived in Chicago where she worked from Blair Fashions as a cutter for about 20 years. She loved to sew. They moved back to the family homestead in Pelkie in 1981. Since 1991 Milma has been a resident at Maple Manor Nursing Center.
Milma is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Welch of Baraga; two granddaughters, Karen (Steve) Giddings of L'Anse, Cyndi (Tim) Martin of Hanover Park, IL; one great-grandchild, Daniel Martin; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband William on May 24, 1993; son-in-law Jerry Welch; brothers Carl, Taisto, and Ahti Harkonen; Sisters, Ellen Nisula, Betty Heino, and Ida Harkonen.
The funeral service will be Monday, October 29, at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Rev. Margaret Grant will officiate. Burial will be in the Pelkie Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
