Monica Elsie Grace

This morning, Sunday, February 9, 2014, Heaven received her newest Angel. Monica Elsie Grace, age 94, of L'Anse, MI passed away at McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital in Lansing, MI.
She was born on April 4, 1919 in Houghton, MI daughter of Harry and Elsie Marie (Halter) Corgan. Elsie graduated from L'Anse High School in 1937. She married John J. Grace in October, 1938 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in L'Anse. She worked as a clerk for Fraki's grocery store for over 25 years; retiring in 1984.
She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Elsie enjoyed life, sewing, knitting, and was always ready to travel at a moments notice. She was known for her love of the outdoors and gardening, especially her flowers enjoyed by all. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren above all and filling their bellies with her homemade donuts, rye bread, cookies, and pasties.
Surviving are her daughter, Bettie Jaehnig of Lansing; brother, Joseph Corgan of Deland, FL; four grandchildren, Xan (Steve) Swailes, Frank (Suzanne) Jaehnig, John Jaehnig, Jim (Amy) Jaehnig; and 11 great grandchildren, Olivia, Jacob, Andrew, Sophia, Emma, Liza, and Isaiah Swailes, Kinleigh Jaehnig, Matthew, Mara, and Benjamin Jaehnig; sisters-in-law, Verna Corgan and Evelyn Corgan, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband John; son-in-law Mort; brothers, Andrew (Esther), Francis (Kate), Patrick (Pearl), William, Daniel (Bernice), and John; sisters, Adeline (Perry) Bradley, Charlotte (Lloyd) Littrell, Josephine (Hubert) Grace, Elizabeth Corgan, and Nora (Gordon) Koski.
The family of Elsie would like to thank the Frank (Skip) and Donna Cangemi family for the love and support they gave to her over the many years of their friendship.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 13th from 5-8 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home; a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Fr. Nick Thompson. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School, L'Anse, MI. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
