Monica Lee Griffin

Monica Lee Griffin, age 73 of Baraga, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, July 10th, 2024 at her home.

She was born June 14, 1951 in Chicago, IL daughter of Philip and Myrtle (Coomer) Nemec. Monica graduated from Kelly High School in Chicago. On September 3, 1977 she married Virgil Dwight Griffin in Springfield, IL where they resided until he passed, then in 2018 she moved to Baraga to be closer to her daughter.

Monica was a nurturer, a great home maker and spouse to her husband, most of all she had great pride in raising her children. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, socializing, always had a desire to be a dancer, loved animals and was a prolific writer.

Surviving are her children Monica Wakeham of L'Anse, Robert Zimon of Coachella, CA; step-daughter, Tina (Bart) Misantoni of Naperville, IL; brother Philip Nemec of Hancock; sister Phyllis Nemec of Hancock; grandchildren, Griffin Potesta, Phoenix Potesta, Risto Wakeham, Cheyenne Griffin, Kaeson Zimon, Neelix Sparrow, Trevor Griffin; great-grandchildren, Chevy Griffin and Nova Griffin.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Philip and Myrtle; husband Dwight; daughter, Christine Zimon; step-children, Todd Griffin and Sean Griffin.

Her funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at Most Holy Name of Jesus Church with Fr. Jins Joseph officiating. Burial will be in the Assinins Cemetery. A pot-luck luncheon will follow in the church hall. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
