Myrtle E. Gauthier, age 85 of Baraga passed away on Friday, Dec. 5, at Marquette General Hospital following a short term illness.
She was born October 13, 1918 in Keweenaw Bay, MI daughter to the late John and Emma (St. Arnold) LaFernier. Myrtle worked at the KBIC WigWam Enterprises, housekeeping for local motels, and also at the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Craft Shop. She was a member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Church, KBIC, and Ojibwa Seniors.
Myrtle is survived by her son Fred Gauthier of Zeba; daughters, Dorothy (William) Juutilainen of L'Anse, Shirley (Bohdan) Zasadnyj of L'Anse, and Lauri (Robert) Denomie of Baraga; sister Susan LaFernier of Covington Rest Home; 14 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her son Raymond Gauthier; brothers Edward and William LaFernier; sisters Florence Lofquist and Annabelle Jacker; and grandson Daniel Gauthier.
The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, at Most Holy Name of Jesus Church in Assinins. The visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 6-9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Parish prayers will be recited at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Fr. Greg Heikkala will officiate. Burial will be in the Assinins Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
