Nancy Louise Haataja

Nancy L. Haataja, age 70 of Zeba, MI passed away on Friday, April 13, 2012 at her home.

She was born December 8, 1941 in L'Anse, MI daughter to the late Archie and Margaret (Shalifoe) Knapp. Nancy attended school in L'Anse. She married Alfred Fabian Haataja on November 27, 1971. Nancy worked as a bartender at Swede's Bar in L'Anse for over 20 years; then worked at the Ojibwa Casino, retiring in 2000.

Nancy was a member of the KBIC, Ojibwa Seniors, and the Zeba United Methodist Church. She loved the Packers, going to Pow-wow's, camping, the computer, and being with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her children, , Weylin (Amy) Haataja of L'Anse, Clyde "Darryl" Koski of Lena, WI, Lisa M. Denomie of Baraga, Roy "Donny" (Beth) Koski of West Bend, WI; step children, Vicki (Dave) Dompier of Baraga, Fabian Haataja Briggs of Sanbernadino, Tim Haataja Tilson of Covington, Dale Haataja Tilson of L'Anse; 22 grandchildren, , Winter, Orion, Koda, Raven, Summer, Darryl, Joan, Jennifer, Nancie, Tyler, Jessica, Ryan, Kerri, Scott, Donna, Alex, Alisha, Ronny, Ricky, LeAnn, Tina, Mitchell, and Anung; 11 great grandchildren, Domenic, Samantha, Vincente, Kieghlee, Reina, Jose, Shelby, Haily, Adrianna, Savanna, and Tori; sisters, Brenda McKittrick of Baraga, Margaret Rowloff of Sidnaw, Mary (George) Geroux of Baraga; special friend, Diane Charron of Baraga.

Preceded in death are her husband Alfred Fabian Haataja; stepdaughter Terry; stepson Ricky; five brothers, John, Chico, Sonny, Wally, and Teeny Knapp; number one sissy Louella Wood.

Nancy's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 17th at 11:00 a.m. in the Ceremonial Room at the Ojibwa Senior Center. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Indian Pinery Cemetery at a later date. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
