Nora E. Ruona
January 2, 1907 — July 8, 2001
Nora E. Ruona, age 94, of L'Anse, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in the Skilled Nurse Unit.
She was born January 2, 1907 in Pelkie, MI, daughter to the late John and Lena (Holm) Erickson. Nora married William Ruona in 1933 in Pelkie. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1984, at which time she moved to L'Anse. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, WELCA, Baraga Land Senior Citizens, and Sturgeon Valley Historical Society. She was an avid card player, and enjoyed reading about current events, being with her neighborhood coffee group and spending time with her great grandchildren.
Nora is survived by one son, William (Roselyn) Ruona of L'Anse; three daughters, Marcella (Robert) Kotlarz, and Viola "Toddy" Ruona both of Glenview, IL, Dr. Luanne Ruona of Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren, William (Carmen) Ruona of Farmington, MI, John (Patrice) Ruona of Richfield, WI, Tracy (Robert) Baade of Lake Bluff, IL, and Alison Kotlarz of Northbrook, IL; and five great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Walter, and Richard Erickson.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6-9:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home, and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Judy Mattson and Rev. Margaret Grant will officiate. Burial will be in the Pelkie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga.
