Olga S. Erickson, age 99, formerly of Keweenaw Bay, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2005 in Fullerton, CA. She was born on January 18, 1906 in Stambaugh, MI to Sophia and John Autio.

Olga attended Northwestern University in Chicago for three years after which she returned to Iron River and taught at the Front Creek School. She married E. Edward Erickson, who was teaching at the Baraga High School, on December 2, 1933. After marriage, she returned to college and received her teaching degree from Northern Michigan University. She taught for several years at the Alston School and then at the Keweenaw Bay School until her retirement in 1968. She and her husband enjoyed seven years of retirement until his death in 1975. She spent her remaining years in both Upper Michigan and southern California.

Olga had been active for many years in community affairs being a member of the Keweenaw Bay Community Club and a charter member of the Keweenaw Bay Extension Study Group. She was a charter member of the Maplewood Charter Order of Eastern Star of L'Anse, and, also a Past Worthy Matron. Her membership with Holy Trinity Lutheran Church began eighty years ago with the Lakeshore Parish and she was the church's oldest member.

Preceding her in death were her husband, E. E. Erickson, her son, John, her sister Celia Rolfs, three brothers, all of Iron River, and her sister-in-law, Fannie Shulstad, of Keweenaw Bay. Surviving are her daughter, Lois (David) Tice of Brea, CA, her grandson, Craig (Jaime)Hayden, of Los Angeles, CA, two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Gertrude Autio of Iron River and Bertha Erickson of Ypsilanti, MI, and several nieces and nephews residing in various US cities.

Services will be held Saturday, June 25, at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a service at 10:30 AM. Internment will be at the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
