Orrene Evelyn Titus, known to everyone as Evelyn, passed to her heavenly reward at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba on June 14. She was born on July 19, 1919, the daughter of Thomas “Ed” Robeson and Lena (Summerfeldt) Robeson on a farm in Stockbridge, Michigan. She attended first a country school, then high school and went on to graduate in 1937 from business college in Jackson, MI. She was employed as an office worker until she married Malond J. Titus in 1944. Together, they moved to the L’Anse, MI area in 1956. In L’Anse she worked as a teachers aide for the Intermediate School District for several years teaching special education students, retiring in 1980.
Evelyn lived a faith filled life and was very active in the L’Anse United Methodist Church as a lay speaker and member of the Womens Society. She also sang in the choir and taught adult Sunday school. She was also an officer of the Order of Eastern Stars for several years. Her hobbies included rock hounding and camping with her husband, crafts, gardening, studying the bible and reading.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and a sister. She is survived by her son, Gary (Nannette) Titus of Escanaba, MI, daughter Donna (Bruce) Winder of Pine River, MN, and by her grandchildren, Sonja (Jon) Marifke of Duluth, MN, Jacob (Neely) Winder of Bridgeport, CA, Mike (Desiree) Titus of Escanaba and Benjamin (Kathleen) Titus of Santa Fe, NM, along with several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Evelyn touched many lives in her kind and gentle way and she will be greatly missed by many.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 19th from 3-4:00 p.m. at the L'Anse United Methodist Church. The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a service at 4:00 p.m. followed by her funeral service with Rev. Nate Reed officiating. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
