Patricia Ann Veker, 36, of Murrieta, California, formerly of L'Anse, passed away Monday, July 10, 2006, at the Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar, California following a long battle with diabetes.
She was born September 15, 1969, in Marquette, Michigan, a daughter of Norval J. and Mary C. (Coyle) Veker. Patty was a 1987 L'Anse High School graduate and participated in track, basketball, cheerleading and debate. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Northern Michigan University in 1992. She also studied communications as a graduate student at Michigan Technological University.
Patty was employed as a real estate agent for Frakis Real Estate in Houghton then as a caseworker for the Keweenaw Bay Tribal Center. She relocated to California where she was most recently employed as a customer service representative with InterVU Inc. in San Diego, CA.
Patty completed the International Diabetes Education Program and once addressed Congress on prevailing diabetes issues.
She will be remembered as a caring person who enjoyed helping others.
Patty is survived by her parents, Norval and Mary Veker of L'Anse. She was preceded in death by her brother, John W. Veker on November 22, 1991.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Scott Williams officiating. Interment will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
