Pherol F. Voakes, age 88 of L'Anse passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
She was born January 14, 1916 in Ludington, MI daughter of the late Myron and Clara (Taylor) LaBar. Pherol graduated from L'Anse High School in 1935. She married John Voakes, Sr. on April 5, 1947 in L'Anse. Pherol enjoyed being with her grandchildren, gardening, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, swimming, and playing the piano.
Surviving are her daughter Clara Grubb of L'Anse; sons John (Karen) Voakes Jr. and Keith Voakes of L'Anse; brother Merton (Olive) LaBar of Grand Rapids, MI; grandchildren, Cynthia Hinkle, Saundra (Scott) Bolden, Roger (Beth) Voakes, Michael (Alison) Voakes, Robert Voakes, Jan Voakes, Jesse Voakes, Jolie Voakes; great grandchildren, Stephanie Hinkle and Piper Voakes.
Preceding her in death are her husband John on February 29, 2004; son Alfred Rasanen; and sister Charlotte Carr.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 4 at 4:00 pm at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Rev. Jim Mathews will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
