Rachael Eileen Erickson

May 28, 1920 — February 20, 2011

Mrs. Erickson was born on May 28, 1920 in Iron Mountain, Michigan, the daughter of the late Chester W. and Della (Wifler) Fruick. She moved to L'Anse with her family in 1925. She graduated from the L'Anse Highs School in 1939 and attended the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Business College for one year.

She began working at the L'Anse Township Schools in November 1940, as a secretary to the Superintendent of Schools, along with other duties of payroll clerk and bookkeeper. She retired on October 31, 1976 after having worked 36 years with three Superintendents.

She was the Treasure of the L'Anse High School Alumni Association, along with other organizations in L'Anse that organized the first All-School Reunion a�" Diamond Jubilee in July, 1962. She also took care of the C.J. Sullivan Scholarship Fund Account from 1962 to 2000. She was Treasurer and Membership Chairmen of the Baraga County Chapter, Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel for thirteen years.

She joined one of the first women's bowling teams of the Ladies League, which began at Nelson's Bowling (Mind's Eye) in September, 1942 and was a secretary for the league for over fifteen years. She was "Manager" and played first base on the L'Anse Women's Softball team during the late 1940's.

She received the L'Anse Area Schools Distinguished Alumnus Award in May, 1992. She enjoyed playing pinochle at the Senior Citizens Center and having monthly lunches with the ladies of the class of 1939 in L'Anse.

She married J. Richard Erickson on July 13, 1943, in Houghton, Michigan. Survivors include her Brother, Buckley Fruick of Shelby Township, Michigan, Brother-in-law, Joseph Beck of Garden City, Michigan, Brother-in-law, Milford Londo of Wakefield, Michigan, several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Erickson was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in August, 1988, her sister, Geraldine (Milford) Londo in September 2001, and her sister, Phyllis Beck in 2010.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services. Rev. Judy Mattson will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family request donations are made to a charity of their choice. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is in charge of arrangements.
