Randal K. Rantanen, age 43 of Zeba passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2001 at his home.
He was born May 1, 1958 in L'Anse, son of the late George and Betty (Barbano) Rantanen. Randy graduated from L'Anse High School in 1976. He played football as tackle. Randy received an award for Heroism for saving a life. He was married to Barb Dakota on July 28, 1979. Randy worked for the Curwood Park, Tribal Construction and R.D. Kent Trucking.
He was a member of the Zeba Indian Mission United Methodist Church, and the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. His hobbies were fishing, whittling wood, hunting, loved to tinker and play on the computer.
Randy is survived by his children, sons, Jared Rantanen of Mt. Pleasant, Brian, Randy, and Kevin Rantanen of Zeba; daughters, Kimberly and Nicole Rantanen of Zeba, Tasha Swartz of Baraga; brothers, Guy Walter (Avis) Leinonen of L'Anse, David (Chris) Rantanen of Manistique; sisters, Paula (John) Jermac of L'Anse, Gladys Selden of L'Anse, and Mary (Wayne) Kostamo of Pelkie.
The funeral service will be on Thursday, December 6, at 11:00 a.m. at the Zeba Indian Mission United Methodist Church. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home and Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. David Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in the Indian Pinery Cemetery in the Spring. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
