Raymond Robert Dompier, age 72 a life long resident of Baraga passed away on Friday, July 2, 2004 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 4, 1932 in Baraga, MI son of the late Wilfred and Selma (Alatalo). Raymond graduated from Baraga High School in 1950. He was in the Army Airborne Green Beret during the Korean Conflict. Raymond married the former Mary Ann Wadaga on October 6, 1956 at St. Ann's in Baraga.

Raymond was the store manager at Gambles store in L'Anse from 1955 until 1998 when he retired. He was an avid rabbit hunter and deer hunter. Raymond was well known for his wild game cooking. He loved to fish and boat with his son Jim and smoke fish. Raymond was a member of St. Ann's Parish Council, American Legion Post 444 in Baraga, MI Nat'l Guard in Baraga, Lumber Jack Committee and coordination of the Night Shirt Parade, the Santa Claus for Baraga Senior Citizen Housing Commission, stand by Fireman in Baraga, the Men's Bowling League at the Grandville and was the 1969-70 League Champion for Pettibone.

Surviving are his wife Mary Ann of Baraga; sons, Jim (Cory) Dompier of Keweenaw Bay, Robert of Merrimac, Massachusetts; daughter Cindy (Bill) Giddings of Baraga; brothers James (Doris), Jerry "Butch" (Diane), Pat (Judy) all of Baraga, Doug (Irene) of Vancouver, WA; sister Mary Jane "Myrt" (Melvin "Bud") LaJoye of Hastings, MI; four granddaughters, Shelly (Chad) Roy of L'Anse, Jodie, Faye and Jamie Dompier all of Keweenaw Bay; sisters-in-laws, Bonnie Dompier of Keweenaw Bay, Phyllis Dompier of Gaylord, Peg Wadaga of Baraga; brothers-in-laws, Mike and Larry Wadaga of Baraga; several aunts; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his brothers, Richard "Chip", Joseph, Norman, and Francis Dompier and infant sister Sharon Dompier.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 5 from 5-8:00 pm at the Jacobson Funeral Home with parish prayers being recited at 7:30 pm. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 6 at 11:00 am at St. Ann's Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Fr. Chacko and Fr. Norm Clisch will officiate. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery. The Baraga Area Veterans under the direction of the American Legion Post 444 will conduct graveside military honors. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
