Raymond D. Giddings, age 77 of Baraga, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2002 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital skilled nursing unit.
He was born April 2, 1925 in Baraga, son of the late Chester and Anna (Varline) Giddings. He was raised in Baraga and graduated from Baraga High School in 1943. Raymond was in the United States Army during WWII, and served in the European Theater. He married the former Stella LaFernier in 1962. She preceded him in death in 1996. Raymond worked in Detroit and Milwaukee before returning to Baraga. He worked for Celotex for 28 years, retiring in 1987.
Raymond was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga and the American Legion Post 444 of Baraga. He enjoyed gardening, bird feeding, and spending time with his family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by a son Terry (Tracy) Giddings of Gwinn; two daughters, Patricia Hyry of AuTrain, MI, Connie Clingaman McLain of Fort Meyers, FL; a brother Jerry Giddings of Union Lake, MI; 11 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Raymond is preceded in death by a son Gary Giddings in 1994; daughter Cheryl Clingaman in 1988; sister Maxine Jacobs in 2000.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home and on Thursday from 9-10 a.m. at the church. Pastor Judy Mattson will officiate. The Baraga County Area Veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444, will conduct a military service on Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
