Raymond Juntunen, age 65 of Nisula passed away on Friday, April 25, 2003 at his home.
He was born December 13, 1937 on the family farm in Nisula, son of the late Arthur and Armita (Lepisto) Juntunen. He graduated from Baraga High School in 1956. He married Judith Angela Maki on November 2, 1957 in Nisula. Raymond was a heavy equipment operator for Thorton Construction Company for about nine years. He also worked for the Pelkie CO-OP for about eight years as a manager. Raymond then dairy farmed until 1997.
Raymond is a member of the Mission United Lutheran Church and the Ottawa Sportsman Club.
He is survived by six sons, Robert Juntunen of Ontonagon, Richard Juntunen of California City, CA, John Juntunen of Susanville, CA, James (Debbie) Juntunen of Hill Air Force Base, Utah, William (Chris) Juntunen of Alston, Daniel Juntunen of San Diego, CA; three brothers, Arnold (Alice) Juntunen of Baraga, Harold (Joyce) Juntunen of Livonia, MI, Norman (Jen) Juntunen of Farmington, MI; three sisters, Lillian (Peter) VanStraten of Pequaming, Jean (Bill) Clisch of Alston, Mae (Jim) Loman of Baraga; a sister-in-law, Jane Juntunen of Greenland; five grandchildren, Donna, Kristin, Angela, Samantha, James "Mutti" Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.
Raymond is preceded in death by his wife Judith on Oct. 16, 1987 and a brother James Juntunen.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday, and 6-9:00 p.m. Monday at Jacobson Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Laakko will officiate. Burial will be in the Nisula Cemetery. His son's will serve as pallbearers. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
