Raymond L. Pesola, 85, of Marquette, formerly of L'Anse, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2005 at Marquette General Hospital.
He was born November 21, 1919, in Ahmeek, Michigan, a son of the late Arvo and Lydia (Moilanen) Pesola. He was raised and spent most of his life in Elo.
Raymond was a WWII veteran, having served in the navy. In 1950 he married the former Helen Michaelson in Laurium, Michigan.
He owned and operated at different times an IGA store in Elo, managed the farm machinery department at the Pelkie Co-Op, owned the Sears store in L'Anse and while in retirement sold real estate as an agent for State Wide Real Estate.
Raymond was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Tapiola, a life member of the Alston VFW Post and L'Anse Legion Post 144. In his spare time he enjoyed farming his family's dairy farm and golf.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Pesola of Marquette; sons, Dr. Gene (Helen) Pesola of New York, NY and Dr. David Pesola of Marquette; siblings, Ruth Kemppainen of Ontonagon, Albert (Florence) Pesola of Huron Town, Arlo (Sylvia) Pesola of Sault Ste. Marie, Esther (Gilbert) Juntunen of Tapiola, Helen Karsama of Florida, Kenneth Pesola of Covington and Shirley (Roy) Byykkonen of Marquette; grandchildren, Abbie Pesola of North Carolina, Kellie Hill of California, Gene-Ric Pesola, Glen Pesola and Gary Pesola, all of New York. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mae Toro, Rosella Jalkanen, Gordon Pesola and Arvo Pesola.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 29, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Tapiola. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. in the church. Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. in the Elo Cemetery with the local area veterans performing the military honors.
