Reino Edward Harkonen, age 87 formerly of Alston, MI passed away on Monday, December 03, 2012 at Newcare convalescent Center in Crivitz, WI where he had been a resident for the past 6 years.
Reino was born August 5, 1925 in Pelkie, MI son to Edward and Aili (Mantila) Harkonen. He attended school in Pelkie. Reino married Elvie Kyllonen on August 31, 1946 in Hancock, MI. They resided in Alston and Reino worked as a logger prior to working for Pettibone in Baraga for 32 years.
Surviving are his son Edward (Cathy) Harkonen of Casa Grande, AZ; four daughters, Jean (Tom) Jeske of Wausaukee, WI, Linda (Wayne) Rickenbaker of Charleston, S.C., Diane (Steve) Rypka of Owatonna, MN, Sandy Summers of Pelkie, MI; five grandchildren, Arina Harkonen, Travis Jeske, Danielle (Brent) Langer, Dale (Mariah) Summers, Mitchell Summers; and two great grandchildren, Bria and Riley Summers.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife Elvie; son Kenneth Harkonen; sister Vieno Prost; and a granddaughter Jessica Harkonen.
On Friday, December 7th a funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse. Pastor Jesse Aho will officiate. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Alston Cemetery.
