Reino H. Tapio, age 86, passed away on November 1, 2002 at his home in Buckeye, Arizona. He was born January 6, 1916 in Osceola Township near Calumet, Michigan. The son of the late Christian and Hilja(V/Werman), he lived as a youth in Mohawk, Trout Creek and Iron River, Michigan. He resided in Chicago, IL; Everett and Poulsbo, WA; Baraga and Iron River, MI; and the last six years in Buckeye, AZ. He attended school in Iron River, MI and Carl H. Shurz High School and Washburn Trade School in Chicago, IL.
Reino was a veteran of WWII, having proudly served with the US Navy SeaBees in North Africa and Italy.
He was a journeyman carpenter specializing on grand-scale projects. He worked on numerous federal construction projects in the West, including Grand Coulee Dam in Washington.
Reino enjoyed the tranquil outdoors, especially fishing. A reserved individual, he enjoyed travel, golf and playing the accordion.
He is preceded in death by his parents; step-mother Ida (Sivula) Tapio; brothers, Eino, Waino, Edwin, and Arne; stepbrother William Sivula; and sisters, Eleanor Peterson and Laura Hill.
Surviving is sisters-in-law Dorothy (Tapio) Moody and Gladys Tapio; also numerous nieces and nephews.
The Ganley Funeral Home of Buckeye, AZ assisted the family. After cremation a grave side memorial service will be held in the springtime at the family plot in Rest Haven Cemetery, Iron River, MI.
