Rhoda Whaley, age 78 of L'Anse passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.

She was born March 5, 1929 in L'Anse, MI daughter of William and Flora (Johnson) Lundberg. Rhoda graduated from L'Anse High School in 1947. After high school she worked at the courthouse as a secretary and then moved to Racine, WI where she worked as a telephone operator for a few years. She married Robert on September 29, 1951 at the First Lutheran Church in L'Anse.

Rhoda was a very active member in the United Lutheran Church in L'Anse. She was the former Superintendent of Sunday school, church council member, Sunday school and Confirmation teacher, assistant Minister, and church circle member. Rhoda was a former member of the Green Hill Manor Housing Commission for several years. She enjoyed sports and was an avid golfer and member of the L'Anse Golf Club and Ladies Golf League, horse shoe player and former League President, bowling and member of 600 club. Rhoda was a life member of the American Legion Post 144 Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband Robert of L'Anse; daughters Therese Ellen (John) Korpi of Ishpeming, Sandra Whaley of L'Anse; granddaughter Heather (Paul) Perry of Aura; 3 great grandchildren Josh Johnson, Seth and Jenna Perry; many nieces and nephews.

Preceded her in death are her parents; son Robert Whaley in 1973; and sister Fern Roy.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 4th at 1:00 pm at the United Lutheran Church in L'Anse. Visitation will be from 11 am until the time of service at the church. Rev. Scott Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
