Rita Mae Uotila, age 88, of L'Anse, MI passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Marquette General Hospital.
She was born January 25, 1920 in New Bedford, Massachusetts; daughter to the late Joseph and Bertha (Pennington) Izzo. Rita graduated high school in Providence, Rhode Island. She married Donald Uotila in 1956 in Houghton. In 1964 they moved to Pequaming. They owned and operated the Bella Vista Bar in Pequaming. She worked with Houghton County Mental Health, as a teacher and on the board. Rita also worked with the equalization department at the Baraga County courthouse for about 10 years.
She was a past board member of the Baraga County Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, VFW Auxiliary and former District President, and the Eagles Aerie #2287. Rita enjoyed singing and painting.
Surviving are her children, Mary Catherine (Ronald) Miilu, Michael (Sandy) Uotila, and Frances Anttila all of Mass City, MI; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Donald, and two great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 19th at 11:00 am at the Jacobson Funeral Home. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Jeanie Manning will officiate. A luncheon and fellowship will follow the service in the Sharing Room at the funeral home. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
