Robert Arthur Larson, age 81 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born February 5, 1937 in Chicago, IL son of Arthur and Signe (Hanson) Larson. Robert graduated in 1955 from Carl Schurz High School in Chicago. On May 7, 1955 he married Nancy Johnson and then they moved to L’Anse.
He worked for Pettibone for 20 years. He started Larson Well Drilling in 1971 and retired in 2008. He was involved with the Soil Conservation District (40 years), Resource Conservation, Aura Volunteer Fire Dept. (47 years), L’Anse Twp. Planning Commission, Ground Water Association for over 40 years, and Bay Ambulance Board Chairman, and was 911 director for Baraga County for 5 years.
Robert was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Hancock, MI. He loved hunting, fishing, going to camp, boating, and spending time with his family. He was admired for his vitality and youthful outlook.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Larson of L’Anse; children, Tom Larson of L’Anse, Elizabeth (Stephen) Karvakko of Tapiola, Steven “Buck” (Denise) Larson of L’Anse, Jeff Larson of L’Anse, Curt (Cindy) Larson of L’Anse, Janet (Howie) Nevala of L’Anse, Karen (Buck) Foltz of Houghton, Debbie Haataja of L’Anse, Diane Larson of Pelkie; sister Lauri Burchett of Lemmon, SD; 24 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; aunt Martha Koskela of L’Anse; a niece and three nephews. A large extended family of cousins also mourns his passing.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brother Russell Larson, and infant daughter Cindy.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 10th from 11-12 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. with Ron Jouppe officiating. The Aura Fire Auxiliary and the Aura Hospital Auxiliary will provide a luncheon and fellowship at the KBIC Zeba Hall starting at 1 p.m. Burial will be on Friday, May 18th at 1 p.m. in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery with military rites by the Baraga County Area Veterans. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
