Roger Andrew Wiik, age 77 of Aura, MI passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at his daughter's home with his family by his side.
He was born October 3, 1943 in Detroit, MI son of George and Siama (Raappana) Wiik. Roger graduated from Baraga High School in 1961. He married the former Roxanne Sandbank on December 12, 1964 in Detroit, MI. They resided in Madison Heights, and he worked for Chrysler and picked up various other jobs to support his growing family. In 1973 they moved back to the U.P., resided in Ishpeming where he worked at the Tilden Mine, retiring from CCI in 2003. They had a cottage on Huron Bay, then moving to Aura, in 2007, to their home he had designed and built.
Roger was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was actively involved in the Aura Twp. Hall was on the board, and organized volunteers for the Aura Jamboree. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to blues music, canning, he also liked to tinker and fix things, and helping out wherever he could.
Surviving are his children, Michael Wiik of Ishpeming, Kristine McDonnell of Ishpeming, Todd Wiik of Gwinn; brother Raymond Wiik of Holly, MI; granddaughters, Megan (William) Judkins, Kelsey (Adam) Book; great granddaughter Maiya Roxanne Book; cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was considered grandpa to various great-nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife Roxanne Wiik; and brother Richard Wiik.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home with Pastor Peter Suomela officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. The Jacobson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
