Ronald R. Kamarainen, age 75 of Baraga passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Bayside Village in L'Anse following a lengthy illness. He was born in Baraga, MI on June 30, 1934 son of the late Ralph and Eleanor (Suomela) Kamarainen. Ron graduated from Baraga High School in 1952. Following graduation he was employed at Detroit Kellering Co. in Detroit until serving in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his time in service he attended Michigan Tech University, graduating with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1960.

Ron married the former Barbara Holm in Baraga on December 3, 1960. He worked for the MDOT, retiring in March of 1993 after 33 years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in L'Anse and served as secretary for the Ottawa Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and spending time with his family.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Barbara of Baraga; children, Bonnie (Jim) Klamerus of Henderson, NV, Alan Kamarainen of Pelkie, and Mike (Sandy) Kamarainen of Mequon, WI; grandchildren, Kyle Gustafson, Jamie and Brooke Klamerus, Amber & Erin Kamarainen, Sara, Jack and Luke Kamarainen; brothers Pete (Carol) Kamarainen of Wilmington North Carolina, Pat (Jean) Kamarainen of Ironwood; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Preceding him in death are his parents and an infant brother.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 20th at 4:00 pm at the United Methodist Church in L'Anse. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. John Henry will officiate.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church Building Fund. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
