Ronald "Ronnie" Gilbert Veres, age 54 of Cross Village, Michigan walked into the Spirit World on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 of an accidental death at his home.
Ronnie, led a short, yet, eventful life. He was born December 6, 1953 in Detroit, MI son of Donald and Luella (Martin) Veres. Ronnie graduated from Roseville High School in Roseville, MI and then served four years in the U.S. Marine Corp. While living in California, he married Rose Edwards in 1978. Ronnie has been living in Cross Village for the past 20 years where he made many friends that became like family. Ronnie loved the outdoors, enjoyed making beautiful Native American birch bark and quill work. He embraced the spirituality of Native Americans and many fellow Native people embraced him. Ronnie also played in a local band called, "Da Tribe". However, his favorite times where when he could spend precious time with his son, Ronald "Ron" Edwards and family in the Upper Peninsula.
Surviving are his parents Donald and Luella Veres of Chesterfield, MI; son Ronald (Katie) Edwards of Baraga, MI; former wife Rose Edwards of Baraga, MI; grandchildren, Josh, Star, Ziah, Ryland, James, and Emma Edwards; brothers, Donald (Rainel) Veres, Robert Veres, Timothy (Kathy) Veres, Terry (Donna) Veres, Kenneth (Lori) Veres; sisters, Donna (Jerry) Hone, and Jean (John) Klepaski all of the Detroit area; close friends Barb and Stan Cole of Cross Village, Mi, and many others across many cities and states. Preceding him in death is his brother James Veres.
A Native American memorial service and burial will take place in the spring in the Assinins Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
