Roseland F. Borgen, 89, of L'Anse, died Wednesday afternoon, July 26, 2006, in the Skilled Nursing Unit at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

She was born September 16, 1916, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Emery E. and Catherine (Connor) Knight. Roseland relocated to the L'Anse area at the age of 7 with her family and has resided here since.

She married Joseph Vann in 1937 and he preceded her in death in 1944. She married Philip Borgen in 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1970.

In her earlier years, Roseland was employed at Winkler's Nursing Home. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the L'Anse VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by 2 sons, Christian Borgen of Rhode Island and Emery (Sally) Borgen of L'Anse; 7 grandchildren, Christie Lee (Bobby) Lopes of Rhode Island, Greg (Cathy) LaJoie of Minnesota, Brent (Libby) LaJoie of Pickford, MI, Nicole LaJoie of Arizona, Todd LaJoie of Florida, Carrie (Justin) Schaub of Baraga and Chad Borgen of L'Anse; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ellen (Lazore) Cote of Brimley, MI; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husbands, Roseland was preceded in death by an infant son; daughter, Juanita Rose; 5 brothers; and 3 sisters.

Visitation will be held in the Jacobson Funeral Home on Friday, July 28, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. A parish prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Rev. Augustine George officiating. Interment will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery.

Justin Schaub, Chad Borgen, Brent, Greg and Elmer LaJoie will serve as pallbearers.
