Ruth S. Outinen
April 24, 1918 — February 14, 2005
Ruth S. Outinen, age 86 formerly of Baraga, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2005 at the Mather Nursing Center in Ispheming, Michigan.
She was born April 24, 1918 in Tapiola, MI daughter to the late John and Sophia (Tuovila) Nevala. Ruth graduated from Houghton High School. She married Leo Outinen on July 1, 1944; he preceded her in death in 1975. Ruth worked as a nurse's aide at Baraga County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga and WELCA, Eastern Star and the Ladies of Kaleva.
Surviving are her son Paul (Sally) Outinen of Ishpeming; daughter Donna (Rodney) Wegner of Knoxville, TN; sisters Edna Heikkinen of Houghton, and Melba Riutta of Portland, MI; sister-in-law Ida Nevala of Calumet, Mildred Outinen of Harrison, MI; four grandchildren, Dean (Kelly) Wegner of Ada, MI, Darren Wegner and Chad Outinen of Centerville, MN, Brent Outinen of Ishpeming; three great grandchildren, Kara, Kayla, and Dylan Wegner; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her daughter Myrna Wagner; brothers Emil, Eino, Elmer Nevala; sisters Hilja and Hulda Nevala, and an infant sister.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 17, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 1:00 PM. Pastor Judy Mattson will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the church. The Ladies of Kaleva will conduct a service at 12 noon, and the Eastern Star will conduct a service at 12:30 PM. Internment will be in the spring at the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range, MI. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga or the American Cancer Society.
