Ruth "Sis" Sands, age 88 of L'Anse passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Marquette General Hospital.
Sis was born on December 7, 1918 in L'Anse daughter Euclid and Flora (Trudeau) LeDuc. She graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1936 from L'Anse High School. Sis attended St. Scholastica College in Duluth MN for two years prior to entering the US Navy. She was in the US Navy from 1943-46. Sis married George Glen Sands on June 8, 1946 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. She worked as a secretary for 15 years, retiring in 1997.
She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in L'Anse and American Legion Post 144, and the WAVES.
Surviving are her children Glen Patrick (Susan) Sands of DePere, WI; Gary Michael (Lisa) Sands of Marquette; William Peter (Karin) Sands of Green Bay, WI; Katherine Mary Marchi of Green Bay, WI; Mary Flora Sands of Cleveland, WI; Anne Therese (Steven) Koski of L'Anse; and Carol Marie (Mark) Emblad of St. Ignace, MI; sister Barbara LaBerge of Menominee; 20 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death are her husband Glen Sands; sister Margaret Bergan; and son-in-law Mark Marchi.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 14 from 12-3 pm at the Jacobson Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 2 pm on Sunday. The funeral mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, October 15th at 1 pm at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Fr. Augustin George will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery where the Baraga County Area Veterans will be conducting military rites under the direction of the American Legion Post 444.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the "New piano fund" at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in memory of Glen and Sis Sands.
