Sadie Sanelma Falk

Sadie S. Falk, age 97, died at her home in Skanee, March 29, 2010, after a short illness. She was born in Herman, Michigan, March 11, 1913, the daughter of John T. and Hilma Keranen. She earned her high school diploma through determination as a correspondence student. Sadie married Eino J. Koski in 1929. Four children were born to them during the harsh depression years that followed. Widowed, Sadie was the first woman elected Register of Deeds for Baraga County. She cherished the memory of holding this trusted position for 2 years before she married George W. Falk in 1949. While raising their 3 children together, Sadie created a wonderful home for her husband and all of her 7 children. Sadie contributed to community life as a 4-H leader, an organizer who brought driver's education to many women, a collector for the first Cancer Drives, an original member of the Arvon Township Fireman's Auxiliary, and she prepared the tax rolls for Arvon Township. Playing cards weekly, baking pies for the church suppers, and organizing the creation of an historical quilt enriched her sense of community. Above all, she knew the importance of being a good neighbor. Sadie lived a sustainable life long before it became fashionable. She sewed for her children as well as her home. She grew her own fruits and vegetables for preserving. Sadie was known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. An avid reader she especially enjoyed literature and biography. Her mind was sharp all of her life, and she will be deeply missed. In addition to Eino Koski, Sadie Falk was preceded in death by her husband George in 1997, son John T. Koski, 1999, great granddaughter Kate Corgan, sister Martha, brothers Karl, Elmer, and Ted. Surviving are 27 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Surviving Sadie are: Evelyn Corgan, Skanee; William T. (Bill) Koski, L'Anse; Donald E. (Cathy) Koski, Battle Creek; Irene (John) Fisher, Escanaba; Darlene (Bob) Fredrikson, Otisville; George E. (Ginger) Falk, Morgan Hill, CA. Grandchildren are: Barbara (Allen) Clish, Christine (Mike) Prost, John Corgan, Thomas (Lynn) Corgan, Beth (Mark) Porth, Timothy (Christine) Corgan, Tina (Don) Keaton, Nancy (Steve) Mahaney, Tammy Koski, Julie (Terry) Kuklinski, Susan (Tom) Ziebell, Jeff (Barbara) Koski, Debra (Tim) Culver, Brian (Terese) Koski, Rhett Fisher, and Lara (Rob) Anderson. Visitation and memorial services will be held Saturday, April 3rd, at Jacobson Funeral Home, L'Anse, Michigan. Visitation is from 12 noon -1:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m.. Pastor Judy Mattson will officiate.
