Saimi "Grandma" Haara

L'ANSE

Saimi "Grandma" Haara, 90, of L'Anse, entered eternal rest on Friday, May 18, 2001 at Bayside Village in L'Anse where she has been a resident-patient since February of 1998.

She was born on August 29, 1910 a daughter to the late Henry and Kaisa (Heikkinen) Keranen in Askel and attended the Askel School. Saimi married Einar Haara on August 29, 1938 in Pelkie and they moved to L'Anse in 1951. He preceded her in death on January 5, 1966. Her grandchildren will remember Grandma Haara as a very loving grandmother who was always there for them. Mrs. Haara attended the Grace Free Lutheran Church in Pelkie.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, 2 brothers, Henry and Kaarlo Keranen, 3 sisters, Laila Maki, Helen Lantto & Vieno Niemi.

Surviving are 2 sons, Melvin (Darlene) Haara of Gold Canyon, AZ; Marvin (Sandy) Haara of Hutchinson, MN; a daughter, Marlene (Loren) Thomas of Baraga; 8 grandsons, David, Gabe, John, Jim, Jeff, John, Jay, Kurt; 5 granddaughters, Amy, Karen, Katherine, Rox, Becky; 4 great grandsons, Luke, Phillip, Robert & Alex; 4 great granddaughters, Grace, Paige, Ashley & Hailey; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Mrs. Haara will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Pelkie with Pastor Dean Franz to officiate.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 21, 2001 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse and also 1 hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Burial will be in the Pelkie Cemetery.
