Severi Ronald Haataja Jr., age 39 formerly of Arnheim, MI passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Emery University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Severi was born September 18, 1968 in L'Anse, MI son of Severi and Rose (Anttonen) Haataja. He graduated from Baraga High School in 1986. After graduation he went into the US Army for a short time. Severi attended Michigan Technology University for 2 years and Columbia University in Missouri for 2 years where he was studying engineering. He was working in food services at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri while attending school. Severi loved carpentry and remodeling, which he did many side jobs, and also built his own home. He enjoyed golfing and computers.

Severi married Julie Wescott on March 1, 1995 in Ahmeek, MI. He is survived by his wife Julie of Richland, Missouri and her two children Kristie and William Smith; father Severi Haataja Sr of Arnheim; father-in-law Roy Wescott of Raleigh, North Carolina and mother-in-law Billie (Paul) Peterson of Tapiola; two brothers Glenn (Janet) Haataja of Arnheim, Charles Haataja of Calumet; sister Sherry Belkola of Arnheim; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death is his mother Rose Haataja in 1996.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 3rd from 11 am to 1 pm at the Jacobson Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 1 pm at Jacobson Funeral Home. Rev. Ted Koehl will officiate. A luncheon and fellowship will follow the service in the Sharing Room at the funeral home and be hosted by the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Ladies of Chassell. Burial will be in the spring in the Askel Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
