Sherry Hakola-Miller, age 54 of Baraga passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at her home with her family by her side, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Sherry was born April 28, 1954 in Wakefield, MI daughter of Warren and Lorraine (Barney) Miller. She grew up in Topaz, MI and moved to Alston in 1969. Sherry graduated from L'Anse High School in 1972. She married to Robert Hakola on July 7, 1972 in Baraga. Sherry worked at Lake Superior Nursery for a few years, and then bar tended at the Village Bar in Alston. For the past 15 years she was a cook at Bayside Village in L'Anse.

Sherry was a dedicated Lions fan, and also cheered for the Packers, a NASCAR fan and collected Dale Jr. Memorabilia. She enjoyed spending time with her grandsons and family, cooking, watching wildlife, and watching westerns and soap operas.

She is survived by her parents Warren and Lorraine Miller of Alston; FiancAC. Dave Lehto of Baraga; son Jesse Hakola of Kingsford; brothers, Warren (Connie) Miller of Kentucky, Craig (Jackie) Miller of Chassell, Mark Miller of Alston; sisters Bonnie (Laird) Heikkinen of L'Anse, Debbie (Robert) Heitikko of Pelkie, Michele (Terry) Ogea of Kingsford; 3 grandsons, Christian Hakola, Tyler Snyder, Troy Hakola; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her son Robert Hakola; grandparents, Sylvia and Rueben Barney, Harvey and Louella Miller; numerous cousins, uncles and aunts.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 2nd at 11:00 AM at Jacobson Funeral Home. Fr. Augustin George will officiate. A time of fellowship will follow the service in the Sharing Room at Jacobson Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the Pelkie Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
