Stanley Raymond LaFernier

Stanley Raymond LaFernier, fondly known as "Butch," passed away peacefully at his home in Baraga, Michigan, on Friday, January 3, 2025, at the age of 77.

Born in September 29,1947 in L'Anse, Michigan, Butch was the beloved son of Leslie and Mildred (Forcia) LaFernier. He attended Baraga Schools and faced life's challenges with resilience after being disabled by polio at a young age. Despite his disability, Butch cherished spending time outdoors, especially with his brother Melvin. The two shared a love for hunting and enjoyed many adventures riding side by side through the beautiful landscapes of the Upper Peninsula. Butch also had a special fondness for animals, particularly his pets and a neighbor's dog, Bubba, who brought him joy and companionship.

Butch is survived by his loving sisters, Helen Tollefson of Skanee, Michigan, and Shirley Velmer of Baraga, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James and Melvin, and his sister, Carol Hamm.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Most Holy Name of Jesus Church in Assinins, with Fr. Jins Joseph officiating. Family and friends may gather for visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Following the mass, a luncheon will be served in the church hall. Butch will be laid to rest in the Assinins Cemetery during a spring burial.
