Susan Louise Walitalo, 46 of Arnheim, died unexpectedly, Friday, September 8, 2006 at Miami County Medical Center in Paola, Kansas.

She was born March 18, 1960, in Hancock, Michigan, a daughter of Allen and Elizabeth (Rothenberger) Tapani and had been a lifelong area resident. Susan attended Baraga High School and was a 1978 graduate. On March 25, 1978 she married Glenn R. Walitalo in Baraga and he preceded her in death on April 19, 2005.

Susan was employed for several years at the Ojibwa Casino in Baraga in the guest services department. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell. Susan enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered by her family as a good mom and wonderful grandmother.

She is survived by 4 children, Rachel (Richard) Feathers of Arnheim, Kimberly Walitalo of Arnheim, Erin Walitalo of Sault Ste. Marie, MI and Luke Walitalo of L'Anse; 4 grandchildren, Harley, Jeremiah, Robert and Brendon; parents, Allen & Elizabeth Tapani of Chassell; siblings, John (Beverly) Tapani of Chassell, Gary (Merri) Tapani of Florence, WI, Ed (Ruthann) Lindgren of Chassell, Ron (Roberta) Tapani of Chassell, Dave (Pam Kobus) Tapani of Chassell and Michelle (David) Lane of L'Anse; mother and father-in-law, Robert & Myra Walitalo of Arnheim; brother-in-law, Bruce (Wendy) Walitalo of Arnheim; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Susan was preceded in death by a son, Lucas R. Walitalo in February of 1982.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 11 a.m. in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell with Rev. Ted Koehl officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Susan can be made to her family in care of the Jacobson Funeral Home.
