Sylvia E. Ruuspakka, age 81 of Laird Twp. Passed away on Friday, May 28, 2004 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital skilled nurse unit.
She was born April 22, 1923 in Elo, MI daughter to the late Jacob and Hilma (Syrjala) Saari, graduated from John Doelle School in Tapiola. Sylvia married Norman Ruuspakka on August 15, 1942 in Elo, and together they ran the family dairy farm. She enjoyed knitting and baking, and being with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are her son Dennis (Sandy) Ruuspakka of Pelkie; daughter Sandra (George) Sheffler of Freemont, MI; brother Ernie (Ann) Saari of Elo; sisters, Dagmar Perander of Middletown, OH, Esther Piipo of Rockford, IL; grandchildren, Rebecca Sheffler of Fort Meyers, FL, Keith Sheffler (USMC) of Jacksonville, NC, Kyle Ruuspakka of Baraga, Kedrin Ruuspakka of Taylor, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her husband Norman; brothers Elmer and Eino Saari; sisters, JoAnn Masters, Ellen Mannisto, Sanelma Repola.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 2, at 1:00 pm at the Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Michael Laakko will officiate. Burial will be in the Pelkie Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
