Theodore John Kissel, age 57of L'Anse, MI passed away unexpectedly on July 16, 2021 at his home.
He was born January 23, 1964 in L'Anse, son of Robert and Dorothy "Lou" (Osterman) Kissel. Ted graduated from L'Anse High School in 1982 and then attended NMU to become a millwright, and later received his corrections certification from Gogebic College. He served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard reserves. Ted worked in Detroit as an union iron worker, at Selkey's Manufacturing in Baraga as a welder, for the labor union with Lindberg Construction, and for the past 6 years he was a Corrections Officer at the Baraga Maximum Correctional Facility.
Ted loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sport shooting, cooking, watching football, and vacationing with his family in Arizona. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church.
Surviving are his parents Bob and Pat Kissel of Baraga; children, Zack (Kristie) Kissel of Howell, MI, Aleah (Mathew) Kissel of L'Anse, Carter Kissel of L'Anse, Connor Frick of Fowlerville, MI; sister Kerri (William) Kissel-Sikkila of L'Anse; former wife Kristie Giddings-Kissel of L'Anse; grandchildren Michael and McKenna Rasanen; sister Jeannie Funke of San Diego, CA, brother Kurt Funke of Clinton, Iowa; brother-in-law Steve Martinac of L'Anse; nieces and nephews, Bobbie, Kyle, Logan, Kegan, Terra, Tyler, Jack, Kaden, Ryan, Tyler, Aaron, Estee, Casandra, Nick, Shannon; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins; and his faithful companion Smash.
Preceding him in death are his mother Lou Kissel; grandparents Lempi and John Osterman, Virgil and Blanche Kissel; and sister Michele Martinac.
Visitation will be on Saturday, July 24th from 9-11 a.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home and the MDOCC Honor Guard will be standing guard. His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery at a later date. A luncheon will follow at St. Ann's Church in Baraga.
