Theophilus “Ted” Mathias Miller, age 73 of Watton, MI passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 14, 1944 in Kenosha County, WI son of Theophilus M. and Helen B. Miller. Ted graduated from Central High School in Salem, WI and then attended Gateway Technological College. He went to work for Case tractors in Racine, WI, then entered the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, returning to Racine, WI where he resumed his career at Case International Harvester tractors as a manager in the transportation department until retiring in 2001. He married the former Joyce V. Maki on December 11, 1982 in Kenosha, WI. They moved to Watton, MI in 2002.
He was a past commander of the VFW Post 8945 in Covington, MI and a member of the Purple Heart Chapter in Chassel, MI. Ted enjoyed watching sprint car racing at Wilmont Speedway and was a car sponsor for many years. He loved the outdoors, feeding and watching the wildlife, woodworking, and driving his Mustangs. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Miller of Watton; children, Melissa Miller of Grover Beach, CA, Kim (Matthew Mainville) Fox and Fred (Tina Clements) Geiger both of Iron Mountain; five grandchildren, Cameron Miller, Michael McCreedy, Brittany (Kyle) Wadaga, Andrew Fox III, and Tyler Fox and nephew, Joseph Savaglio.
Preceding him in death are his parents; son Michael Miller; and sisters, Melinda Yale and Pamela Savaglio.
Visitation will be on Thursday, October 19th from 2-3:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. The Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military rites at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Covington Cemetery at a later date. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
