Ursula Elizabeth Sands

Ursula E. Sands, age 96 of L'Anse passed away Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Bayside Village in L'Anse after a short illness.

She was born March 14, 1912 in Baraga, Michigan, daughter of John and Emma (Stone) Cote. Ursula graduated from Baraga High School in 1930. She married Thiell Sands on February 8, 1936 at the Sacred Heart Church in L'Anse and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1956. Ursula was a very active member in the Sacred Heart Church of L'Anse and was a member of the alter society. She worked at the Buckhorn Restaurant for a few years and then worked for the Village of L'Anse as a deputy clerk for twenty-three years, retiring in 1977.

Ursula is survived by her daughter, Sharon Sands of L'Anse, and her son, Jack "Truly" Sands of Union City, California, and her brother, Berthold "Curly" Cote of L'Anse, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded her in death are her brothers, George, Fred, and Leo Cote and infant brother Francis, and one sister, Mary Voskuhl.

Funeral services for Ursula will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in L'Anse with a Rosary Service at 10:30 a.m. and visitation at 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Father Augustin George will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
