Ursula A. Utley
January 29, 1925 — February 17, 2011
Ursula A. Utley, age 86 of Baraga, MI passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.
She was born January 29, 1925 in Los Angeles, CA daughter to Maurice and Allegra (Miller) Utley. At the age of 3 she moved to Kingsford, MI and graduated from Kingsford High School in 1942. In 1948 Ursula graduated from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science Degree; then got a Masters in Physical Education from University of Michigan in 1951.
She taught in Baraga from 1948-50, Oshkosh State University from 1951-53, Western Illinois 1953-54, South Dakota State 1954-61, in 1962 taught Physical Education in L'Anse for 10 years and in 1972 taught Jr. High English in L'Anse High School. Ursula started girl's gymnastic program in the UP in 1963. She was a member of the MEA, NEA, AARP, and MARSP.
Ursula is preceded in death by her parents and a brother Fred R. Utley.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.
