Viana Marie Keranen, age 88, of Aura, died on Friday, May 10, 2002 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.
Viana was born June 12, 1913 in Gilbert, Minnesota, daughter of the late William and Mary (Hopponen) Saari of Aura. She grew up in Ishpeming and Aura, attending grade schools at both, and then L'Anse High School. She moved to Detroit in 1931 after finishing school.
She married the late Theodore S. Keranen in 1937. They resided in the Detroit/Livonia area from 1937 to 1974. She worked there for many years, including at the Burroughs Corporation, a manufacturer of office equipment. Upon Theodore's retirement from the Chrysler Corporation in 1974, they moved to Aura to reside on Viana's family farm. She attended the Aura and L'Anse United Lutheran Churches. Viana enjoyed reading, writing, sewing and cooking.
Viana Keranen is survived by her son, Ted (Sharon) Keranen of White Lake, MI; seven grandchildren, Ted (Linneya) Keranen of Northville, MI, Kathy (Steve) Dell of Millington, MI, Karol (Mark) Vermeulen of Florida; Tom (Patti) Keranen of Livonia, MI, Todd (Tracie) Keranen of Waterford, MI and Tamara and Laura Keranen of White Lake, MI; and 20 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore, and a brother Uno Saari.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 18, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church in L'Anse. Visitation will be on Friday, May 17, from 4-8:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Rev. Margaret Grant will officiate. Burial will be in the Aura Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
